This is Webtape

Wait...what?

It looks as though you have found yourself in the little corner of the internet that I have dubbed Webtape. If you are wondering exactly what is happening here, the spiel on the homepage quickly sums it up...

Webtape is a place for you to keep track of your memories and daily happenings in different mediums. Our goal is for you to have one post per day so your profile becomes a personal “this day in history.” To help you do this, we will be offering you insight about what to post, such as “Take a picture of the way you sleep” or “Write a haiku about what you ate for lunch today.”

This all started when I realized that people did not have a forum to express how they felt day to day. Needless to say, Myspace bulletins were not cutting it. The lack of a vehicle for communciation could be due to the fact that the internet has yet to be seen as a place for interpersonal communication and sharing–that is what I want to change. And yes, "Webtape" is a play on Radiohead's song, "Videotape." That alone says more about the site than I ever could.

Technologic

Webtape is built on a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack and uses phpMyAdmin. Javascript animations and AJAX requests are done using the beautifully object oriented MooTools framework.

The official PHP library for the Facebook API is used for webtape user to Facebook interaction (such as wall and status updates). Facebook Connect with Facebook's Javascript Client Library is used for interaction with non-webtape users.

To grab content from user submitted links (from providers such as YouTube, Hulu, Flickr, etcetc) webtape uses oEmbed, an open standard for embeddable content created by some of the most cool and forward thinking kids on the Internet.
