so much good

President Barack Obama won't put up with sketchy code and unusable design, so I had to bring webtape up to par.

So, as you all can see, this is the new webtape. It took about 4 months of on and off development time and was recoded from scratch. Clearly, it is nowhere near complete and a lot of things are still broken. Even so, I am going to give you guys a run through of what is new...

What is New in Version 2 (and what it means to you)

Layout:
The new layout is wider allows for more content on the page at once–a clear example of this is the homepage. The new homepage shows for more 5 recent posts instead of 3 and the are also bigger so you get a better preview.

Comments:
If you have posted a comment and you want to edit it, all you have to do is click on the comment and you will be able to change what you need to change. This, of course, will only work if you are logged in...

Friends:
You now have friends! If you are on a post page and you decide "Hey, I like how this person thinks, I want to keep up to date with them," you can add them as a friend and their new posts will be held in your toolbox and on the homepage, for easy access. All relationships are private so if a boy adds a boy as a sweetheart, no one will know.

Toolbox:
On every page (save for the homepage) you can click the "toolbox" button on the top of the page and your toolbox will slide down which displays all your recent posts, comments and friends posts. If you click the "toolbox" button again, the toolbox will slide up and hide until you bring it back again. The point of this is having your posts easily accessible from any page on the site.

Links:
Lets face it, the old links were ghetto, as were the videos. Now, links and videos are merged. If you want to share a youtube video just click "share" then choose "link." If you enter a valid youtube video address into the URL box, webtape will see that and display the video automatically. This also works for Vimeo videos, Hulu videos, Revision 3 videos, Viddler videos and Flickr photos. Sweet.
Also, when you are viewing a link that isn't in one of the aforementioned categories, you will have the option to submit the link to digg.com. If the story has already been submitted, you will have the option of digging it. Note: when you click "Digg," you will be taken to the digg page with that story, it is completely cool, don't worry...

Facebook:
If you click on your name anywhere on the site, it will take you to all of your posts. On that page, it gives you the option of "Syncing with Facebook," if you do so, you will have the option for webtape to share your post to your facebook wall. Note: If you are not logged into Facebook and you click "share," you will be redirected to Facebook so you can log in–it is completely natural.

Those are the main new features with new webtape. As I said, there are a lot of known issues and improvements that need to be made.
If you have a feature suggestion, question or you found a bug post a comment and let me know!

I hope you all enjoy using the new webtape,
jeff

when viewing a post by someone can we get a "see all of userid's posts" link at the bottom of the "userID's new posts" section.
