coldplay

coldplay was tonight, and it was very, very, very good...

mark and i left late from work hoping to avoid the traffic, which of course we didn't, finding the lawn completely packed when we got there, which before this concert, i believed had not even been possible. however, being the cool boys that we are, we were able to make our way front and center, from which we watched most of the concert. songs were played, lyrics were sang, beautiful video was seen,  lame dance party renditions of songs were attempted....

if i remember correctly, in no particular order, the songs up to this point were:
- postcards from far away
- glass of water
- god put a smile on your face
- politik
- in my place
- yellow
- clocks
- life in technicolor
- cemeteries of london
- lost
- 42
- viva la vida
- violet hill
- strawberry swing
- the hardest part
- talk
- fix you

(mark, if i'm forgetting any, tell me)

BUT THEN!
the band went off stage, for what i had believed was just their first encore, but was actually a relocation to the middle of the freaking lawn. people were freaking out, mark and i booked it to the front, making it no less than 12 feet from the stage, from where i snapped that goodie you see up there. from there, they played "green eyes", a song about san diego, "death will never conquer" and "billy jean" before relocating back to the main stage. it was awesome, hectic, crowded, i might have molested a chick, who knows. afterwards, mark and i relocated back to the middle of the lawn, but not without me incurring 3 elbows to the back and a fat mexican dad telling me to stop pushing him (which i wasn't, DICK).

the last song before the encore was "lovers in japan" which was amazinggg. the video was beautiful, and if i didn't love the song already, they had to to pull a sigur ros on us and blast confetti into the air. not any old confetti though, but neat little multicolored butterflies like these:
and if that wasn't cool enough, since this was outside and there was an updraft, the butterflies flew upwards and flew straight out of the venue. it really was, just amazing. they came back, played "the scientist"," death and all of his friends" and "life in technicolor II" before taking their last bow and leaving the stage for good. great ending.

on the way out, everyone in the crowd got a live cd for free, complete with matching butterfly graphic

all in all, it was a great time.

actually, all in all, it has been a great week...
- getting paid to literally do nothing at work
- defeating the court system for the 2nd time in a row (DEEGAH BABY!)
- magazines and brittany saake's sister
- midnight premiere of harry potter and the half blood prince
- lori vick
- brian dall
- katie treichel
- finishing freaks and geeks
- pineapple express (again)
- sunshine cleaning
- the evil dead
- role models
- milk (the movie)

AND SAN FRANCISCO IN TWO WEEKS! w00t!

Sounds like a really good time, especially since they relocated and got more personal with everyone, something I wish Radiohead did.
I like how the butterfly confetti matches the live CD, well done coldplay, well done.

annie with the quickness!

yeah, it was wonderful. they actually did it two times during the concert, the first one being in the middle of the seated area where they had their dance party, so it was really awesome for everyone...

and yeah, i was so happy to see that the cd matched the confetti. i had previously downloaded that live album and had the artwork, not knowing that it actually related to the concert, so seeing the little butterfly confetti raining down on us was a very pleasant surprise

First, that first picture is amazing. Oh God, I wish I were there. Second, the butterflies sound beautiful. When I saw Coldplay, they rained down hundreds of yellow balloons during (you guessed it) "yellow."
They really are just great performers.

Damn, I really wished I would have gone. It really sounds like they know how to put on an enjoyable show, and they played a lot of really good stuff.

Yea, it was a great show. They also did the balloons during yellow. We also saw Randy Humama and Craig Smith there, who had found someone's car keys and were combing the parking lot pressing the panic button.

But really, I need to know the details about this show. How ever did they get to the middle of the lawn? I see them just like, raising out of the grass dressed as flowers or something... How did it happen!?

They just walked off the stage and through the aisles all the way up to the lawn where there was a stage setup.

As for Lori Vick, her and I had a strange encounter after Harry Potter. We made eye contact and held it for like 5 seconds and neither of us said hi.

Hit that!

Heres to hoping that this post is Lori Vick's first Google result...
