I think I almost drowned on my own spit last night.  It's really gross.  I still can't swallow and I now have fevers and chills and headaches and my tonsils are completely covered by those white dots and I hate doctors because that freakin nurse practitioner didn't care about getting me healthy as much as she did about sounding cool and hip.  She reminded me of Amy Poehler's character from Mean Girls.  "What you need to do is REST!  I know your phone is going to start blowin' up at 8:30 tonight, but you gotta ignore it and get some sleep, mmkay girlfriend?"  Okay, so maybe that's not word for word, but it's very close.  All she did was swab the back of my throat and look inside my ears with that light-thing.  She didn't even feel my gargantuan lymph nodes or the small bump that's been swelling beneath my chin.  I don't trust doctors and I never will.  I learned as much from her as I did from WebMD.  Thank god my mom's friend gives us everything she owns (example, her car, another example, a bottle of perscription amoxicillin).  I think it's been helping a little bit, at least.
WELL, as I'm sick I have nothing to do.  I've probably slept more in the past three days than I have been awake (that's why I'm writing this at 8:30 am), and need something to occupy me.  I guess I could do my reading for school, but isn't that just incredibly boring.  Also, I can't seem to focus for too long on anything because I start noticing the pain more.  It's weird but true.  I really should read Things Fall Apart though, and finish Huck Finn, and start in on some Yeats poems. 
Hmmm...I have nothing to say because I've been doing absolutely nothing.  Maybe I'll write a lie blog?  About how I wish the past few days went?

Lie Blog

This weekend was resplendent.  I felt a little sick on Saturday so I called in to tell Angelica that I didn't think I could make it to work.  I mean, I COULD if they really, really needed me to, but I would prefer to stay home and rest up.  "GINA.  GINA.  GINA  [she repeats people's names a lot for emphasis].  I don't want to endanger your health.  You need to stay home and get better.  I'll find a way to cover this shift.  Don't worry about it at all, okay?"  Gee, she sure is sweet.  So I went to bed and slept until about 6 pm or so.  Upon waking, I noticed that I felt completely refreshed and rejuvenated!  I sprung out of bed and hopped over to the mirror to check my throat . . . it was al pink and healthy as a whistle!  Just then I got a text from Natalie asking if I wanted to go sing karaoke with her that night.  WOULD I!  We showed up to the Lamplighter at about 9:30 (after a delicious dinner of sushi and miso soup) and while there were quite a few people there, no one was signed up to sing anything.  Well I took advantage of that and dominated the microphone the whole evening.  A guy in the back of the bar came up to me after my heartbreaking rendition of "My Heart Will Go On" and introduced himself as the CEO of Warner Music Group.  He said he thought I was the most amazingly talented singer he's heard in years and it would just kill him if I wouldn't sign with his label.  So I did.

I awoke Sunday morning to a bright, sunny sky and the sound of birds chirping.  I was immediately inspired to go for a hike.  I packed a lunch, put on my hiking boots, and set off.  I decided that Torrey Pines would be awful beautiful, so I drove there and went on a lovely hike from the top of the cliffs down to the shore.  I sat down to eat about 25 yards away from an old, sagely-looking man who seemed deep in meditation.  Well I got about halfway through my sandwich when I felt his eyes on me.  I turned to see him looking my way.  He nodded and I felt as if a bond had formed between us with no communication at all.  I don't know why, but I picked up my things and moved down toward him.  He nodded again when I approached him and I bowed back.  His open sweeping hand indicated that I should sit.  I did.  I offered him the second half of my sandwich and he took it with a gracious smile.  There we sat, looking out at the sparkeling waves and the foamy piths of water shooting up where the ocean snagged on rocks.  I closed my eyes and began to breathe deep.  I could hear the gulls rhythmic harping, smell the overwhelming salt of the sea, feel a cool mist settling on my prickling skin.  I felt a sudden rush of not happiness or peace or calm, but wholeness, goodwill.  I opened my eyes and turned to the old man, I needed to express this feeling with someone . . . but alas, he was gone.  Gone as if he had never been. 

Okay, those are the only lies I can think of for now.  Take care and try not to get sick.  It's terrible.
