moving cool pics

Vimeo is a respectful community of creative people who are passionate about sharing the videos they make Use Vimeo if you want the best tools and highest quality video in the universe

This is an awful video of something I was playing around with a couple nights ago. Really, like borderline unwatchable but there is really no other way for me to show you. Is this cool? Should I keep playing around with it?

Also, I got to work super early this morning, it 9am right now!
I solely did it so I could walk to work while listening to the Album Leaf and there are few things better than doing just that.

You should just use a screen capture program. So far its like a way better windows media visualization (album leaf style) so props. It would be sick to have a completely refined system where the color and and visuals change depending on the tempo and peaks at certain ranges in the song. I'm not sure where you are going with it though. How did you make this?

The issue with using a screen capture program is that the particle generators are activated via input from the computer's microphone, so using a screen capture program wouldn't be able to capture the audio.

It is still sort of a "proof of concept" so it is pretty rough but the particles do interact with the peak audio. For this simple demo, it works like so:

The amount of blue particles emitted is directly influenced by the current volume of the high-end frequencies, the purple particles are emitted based on the low frequency volume. And the overall particle size is decided by the overall audio volume.

I totally want to make it work on beat more but I still have to think through how that would work...

You sound really tired in the video.
This looks awesome by the way.
I think you should absolutely keep playing around with it.

I was really tired! Also, I was trying to keep quiet because Annie was sleeping ALSO I had no idea what to say so I was just rambling.

Anyways, enough excuses, thanks man!

This is how you should describe this visualizer from this point on (quoted from the video):

"this thing where I can add it to my voice and then it does crazy things and it makes cool pictures and stuff..."

Anyway, I think it's awesome. I could seriously watch it for hours.

My only critique of it is that it seems to be really pink\purple heavy. I think that might just be because there's always gonna be more bass in a song and bass is always going to be louder (or more easily picked up by the microphone) than higher frequencies. If you could tinker with that so that it would respond better dynamically then I think you'll have something really great! Are you planning on doing anything with this or are you just messing around?

Thanks man!
I totally agree with the overload of purple as well. I think that is happening for a few reasons...
1) Like you said, the internal mic probably sucks at picking up highs
2) I made the particles generated from the freqs are much larger than the high ones. It could work if I just lowered the opacity. I will play around.

But I have no plans for this really, just wanted to try something new.
