I've said this for the longest time, but I watched this documentary with my mom a few weeks ago and it really sparked my interest in going again.
Day trip? Camping trip? Just look at the place!

It has been one of my goals in life to visit those dinosaurs. Have you ever seen the movie, The Wizard or Pee Wee's Big Adventure? I care more for The Wizard but anyway, they filmed the last scene there and I've always wanted to go ever since I was a kid.

hahaha, that video is hilarious. I'm totally down to go out there sometime. Oh dude, it's right next to Coachella. We could go there the day before, stay the night, and go to the festival the next day.
Lauren: Those dinosaurs are pretty cool, I've stopped by a few times when my family used to go out to Palm Springs.

Isn't there a movie about a kid who is like a pro arcade or nintendo player, and isn't one of the scenes one where they go to the dinosaur?

Too bad I saw those dinosaurs on the way to Coachella AND I didn't know they existed until that moment. It was a happy little surprise to say the least :)

One of my friends from Duke went there and took these super rad film photos.
In NC, they have these super random dinos that used to be in a museum here... but the museum got rid of them so they're just like dumped in these trees and stuff.
I haven't seen them, but my roommate has, and you've just reminded me that I need to go find them...

Peter that's The Wizard.
Of course I've seen Pee Wee's Big Adventure! By "for the longest time" I mean "ever since I saw Pee Wee's Big Adventure"
That sounds like an amazing Coachella plan Mark. When is it? The end of April? Wasn't it 100 something last year? We should scope it out sometime before then while its still cooler, find a campground/dilapidated motel to book ahead of time.
Did you go last year Gina? I REALLY wanted to go that Saturday.

My mom swears she has taken there before, but I have no recollection.
We could visit Salvation Mountain too!

This year it's on April 17-19 and tickets are just over $100 for a single day. And if you didn't know, you can edit comments by clicking in the text instead of having to make another one right after it.

Re: Salvation Mountain. I think that is the in the opposite direction, all the way down 8-east. I could be wrong, though. I threw away a postcard for it today...

Yea, it's about 40 miles from the northern end of the Salton Sea, almost 60 from Coachella.

No, I went two years ago: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Regina Spektor, Arcade Fire. Perfection.

Jealous! I bet Win was looking good :)
Did RHCP play Knock Me Down? That's the one song of theirs that just irks me.

I'm not sure, I just know my mom said "Were going to the Salton Sea, Bombay Beach" and she came back with pictures and another dvd from the Salvation Mountain dude.

Not really sure of the RHCP song selections. They had a really organic performance; it felt like I was hanging out, listening to friends mess around with instruments.
And Win was A-freaking-mazing. The whole performance blew me away.
And please don't go to Salvation mountain without me! Three of my good friends go there all the time and never seem to invite me. They\'ve seriously helped paint the mountain, are on a first name basis with the guy who runs it...and I\'ve never once gone with them. Soooo, if you ever venture out there, I\'m always free...

I won't! What do you think about combing a trip to Salvation mountain with this camping trip?
"40 miles from the northern end of the Salton Sea"
I don't think we'd want to go to the North end. I think the mountain is about 5-10 miles from the place with all the derelict buildings.
