July 4th

My mom's birthday. It always bums me out a little because I'd like to spend time with friends and watch fireworks or go drinking or do something crazy but I am obligated to hang out with the family.

I wasn't really feeling the excitement for Independence Day this year. Even while watching the fireworks I remember people ooohing and ahhhing and me thinking to myself, "That wasn't that cool." I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I were really close, or at least inside Disneyland. We watched the fireworks from the pool level of the Paradise Pier Hotel and they were exploding off in the distance above some trees. It looked nice but I didn't get to feel the BOOM from the big ones, that's my favorite, when you can feel it in your chest and it somewhat hurts your ears.

Yesterday I played a game of indoor soccer with Kassey, her boyfriend, his brother, their mom, and some family friends of theirs. It was the most difficult thing I've ever done. Indoor is nothing like normal soccer. The field is smaller and there's only half the amount of people on the field so you are constantly running. I was gasping for air after 2 minutes and light headed after 5. It was a great experience and I'm probably going to join their team as an alternate and play with them each Sunday. It made me realize how out of shape I am and is good motivation to start running again, especially now that my knee has healed.

Then I went swimming at my grandparent's house to cool down. First I sat with them and wasted some time while we watched the Padres lose in the 13th inning. I swam with my grandpa for a bit and then picked some avocados from their tree and left. I really wish I had a pool, it feels so good when it's so hot out. I guess I'll just have to use other people's.

Muse really opened up to me for the first time last night. I was laying down watching tv and he was walking back and forth across me purring and wanting me to pet him while he was needing on me. I like him now that he is coming out of his shell.

My week off was nice but now it's time to get back to work. I wish I could just have the whole summer off to do whatever I wanted. At least I can take time off to do trips to June Lake and San Francisco.

I'm happy for your breakthrough with Muse. He did that with me twice when I watched him; he kept crawling up into my hair too. What a sweet cat.
