I am currently at Jeff's house. Joe is playing beautiful guitar parts with his bow. Jeff is recording/effecting them I think. Chris is fixing titles in his music collection. Ants are invading the house.
My family left on the 14th for vacation in Hawaii. They stayed in Honalulu for a couple days and are now in Kauai. I was invited to go along but I'd have to pay for myself, so I declined, although it would have been an amazing vacation. The night before they left I was hugging my mom goodbye and with a smile on her face she said, "I'm glad you're not... sad you're not coming." Freudian slip? I thought it was really funny. Anyways, they get back on the 24th and I have to take care of their dog and guinea pigs until they get back. AND I have a house to go to whenever I want that has cable, internet, free food, video games, and a trampoline. Awesome.
In 2 weeks from yesterday Joe, Jeff, and I will be leaving for San Francisco. I'm really excited because I've never been before and everyone seems to like it so much.
Jeff's family is also gone starting last Thursday until the 24th so we're kinda having perpetual band practice until then. We've already written some great stuff, I'm happy to be in a band again.
On Friday I bought tickets to see Mew play with NIN at the Hollywood Palladium in LA for $65 each. After I bought tickets there was rumor of Mew playing a solo show in LA the day before for like $20. So I'm kinda bummed about that because I can't even sell my tickets for the NIN to someone else due to their strict anti-scalping policy. So if anyone wants to go Up to LA on September 1st and/or 2nd to see Mew, I will be there both days.
I've listened to the new album a few times and I like it. It isn't as good as And the Glass Handed Kites but it isn't bad. There's a few great songs and a couple ok songs. All worth listening to though. I'm gonna wait until its official release before I write a review of it though.
But for the real story... my favorite teacher: Mark Gabler He was my high school biology teacher and is a family friend. I also really liked him cause we shared the same first name. Apparently my aunt Jan claims to have set him and his wife up but I don't know if it's true. He's basically the reason I went into biology and more specifically into research. When he taught he was so animated about everything and always made us laugh with his strange noises and impressions of organisms. I remember being so proud when I received my score for the AP Biology test and also when I get hired at Salk that I sent him emails to let him know how I was doing. I wish I could have more teachers like him, teachers that I can see more as mentors and not just professors.
